1962 Northern Germany (near Denmark) sailing on rivers and lakes and building my first bigger sailing dinghy.
1963 Involved with Youth Red Cross, trained in first aid, CPR. Completed Silver Lifeguard certificate (second highest at the time in Germany).
1965 Bonn, Germany, Rhine River and Lakes, small dinghies. Finished Tool & Dye maker (Feinmechaniker) apprenticeship at the Institute of Bio Physics in Bonn Germany).
1969 Joined German Navy - Mine-Sweeper (mine mechanic & navigation), aircraft mechanic (F104, Phantom, Breguet Atlantic SAR = Search And Rescue) & later aircraft inspections, cutter sailing skipper; sailing on: Lakes, Baltic Sea, i.e., Dehler 9m, Lancer and Scheren Kreutzer 43’, & small keelboats.
1972 Northern Germany, starting high sea sailing, North Sea, 38’ - 40’ wooden boats, teaching sports Judo to small kids, sailing, started windsurfing, teaching sailing at Bederkesa Lake with Dutch Army personnel.
1973 Circumnavigating England/Scotland coming from Norway with German Navy (watch captain while at sea).
1973 – 1978 Skippering keel boats, mostly Baltic Sea, Denmark, Sweden and Oslo, Norway on a 50’ steel cutter ‘Sinbad Exe’; skippering 28’ - 50’, fiberglass, wood and steel hulls 1974 Completed sailboat skipper certificate BR # 20066 for river sailing in Bremen. Germany Power boat skipper’s license # 35889.
1974 Sailing in Aegean Sea, Yugoslavia, Mediterranean Sea, France, and Spain. Vessel sizes Hobby Cat, Tornado and wooden Sailing Yachts to 44’.
1979 Completed BK Sailing & Skipper’s Licenses, (second highest sailing certificate in Germany) in Kiel WG, Certificate # 12677. Started Schulz Yacht Service, teaching windsurfing and small keelboat sailing, emergency at sea Man over board maneuvers, how to get a stranded yacht of the ground. Delivering 40’ Ferro-Cement Yacht (via canals and rivers Rhine, Mosel, Channel De Lest, Saone, Rhone river into to the Mediterranean Sea. Became member of Trans-Ocean International Sailing Association to encourage people to go high sea sailing www.Trans-Ocean.org - Taught windsurfing in France.
1980 Atlantic crossing in Sapphire 29’ sloop (26 days at sea, celestial navigation). Sailing in the Caribbean waters, sail master on a 65’ German Yawl. Started windsurfing school in Long Island, NY, East Northport, “Hawaiian Sailboat Company”. 1982 01/82 Skippered 68’ Deerfoot for 11 months, including long trips to Mexico. Started European Yacht Service with 2-4 employees installing electric/electronic systems and rigging. Taught sailing, boat handling and performed safety inspections. Involved in some regatta activities. Started Trans-Ocean base in Los Angeles, CA (see website, www.Trans-Ocean.org/ToBase_g01.htm.)
1982 – Present Lecturing about preventive maintenance in yacht clubs, OCC - NB, on the West Pacific Coast & Japan (May/2000), WM Product stores, San Diego, Marina Del Rey Marina, CA. Teaching and educating customers boat handling and boat safety taking individuals & International students sailing (USC & UCLA) to present. 1991 - 1997 Family outreach for new UCLA students at the UCLA International Dashew Student Center.
1997 - Present Started cruising multihull sailing of 43’ catamaran to present. 2001 Assembled 53’ racing catamaran “Afterburner” from New Zealand, continued in inspection survey of this vessel. Sailing foldable trimaran for 2½ years, F9A and gave sailing instruction on that vessel. Inspection of a 55’ custom Catamaran at Gils Catamaran, Costa Mesa, CA.
